NAMCHI, 21 Nov: Fugitives in a rape case, who had managed to evade arrest for the past more than 18 months, were taken into custody here today after a Sessions Court [East & North] order to have their properties attached [given their fugitive status] forced them into the open.
28-year-old Thulay Rai and 39-year-old Pyara Rai, both residents of Salghari near Jorethang, are wanted in a rape case registered in March 2010 in Jorethang.
Following the order of the court, the DC [South] had issued directions to have their properties confiscated and issued notices to the effect. This forced the hand of the two absconders and brought them to the DC’s office today, offering to surrender.
Confirming the episode, the DC [South], AK Singh, informs that the duo turned up in his office following the issuance of the notices against their property and that after they were identified, the police was called in and the arrest effected.
The Court, he added, has also been informed of the development.
The SP South, Manoj Tiwari, while confirming the arrest, informed that the police was on the lookout for the duo for the past 18 months.
He also informed that information on the duo had also been circulated among government departments here in the apprehension that they might arrive there in connection with some work.
