GANGTOK, 18 Nov [IPR]: The State Government, vide Gazette Notification no. 83/Home/2011 dated 14 November, has constituted a committee chaired by the Chief Secretary to examine the damages caused to monasteries, other religious institutions and heritage sites of Sikkim by the earthquake of 18 September 2011.
The Committee will have the help of experts and submit a detailed report to the Government for repair and restoration. This has been done to ensure that the damaged monasteries are restored to their original shape for which opinion and recommendation of a High Level Committee consisting of technical experts on the subject is required. The eleven member committee headed by Chief Secretary of the state has Secretary, Cultural and Heritage Department as Member Secretary.
