Rs. 8,020.67 LAKH PROJECTED FOR AGRI AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN SOUTH DISTRICT FOR 2012-13NAMCHI, 22 Nov: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural development [NABARD] has initiated the preparation of district-wise Potential Linked Credit Plans [PLCPs] in a bid to build a more “meaningful link” between development planning and the process of credit planning to support agriculture and rural development.
Today, a meeting was conducted here at the DAC Conference Hall on the PLCPs for 2012-13 of South District with the District Consultative Committee/ District Level Review Committee. The meeting was chaired by AGM, RBI-Gangtok, AK Yadav and attended by ADC, Development [South], DK Pradhan, Lead district manager SBI, SD Wongdi, branch managers of various banks functioning in south district and the officials of various department of government of Sikkim.
During the meeting it was informed that PLP documents will help bankers and stakeholders in undertaking development work in the field of agriculture and rural development in the district. The basic objectives of PLPs is to map the potential available, assess the gaps in infrastructure which need to be bridged and marketing support available to channelize credit into sectors with growth potential within a specified time period.
The total potential estimated for the district for the year 2012-2013 is Rs. 8,020.67 lakh. Out of the total projection, Rs. 3,201.62 lakh has been estimated for Agriculture and allied activities (including Rs. 1955.20 lakh for short term loans), Rs. 139.05 lakh under non-farming sectors and Rs. 4680.00 lakh under other priority sectors.
A brief discussion was held where the officers from agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry expressed that the banks fail to give loans to the progressive farmers regarding which the AGM RBI, AK Yadav and other officers briefly discussed the matter with the bankers and asked them to cooperate with the State for its development.
