GANGTOK, 19 Dec: Sonam Paljor Bhutia, a class VI student of Sherap Odsal Raldeling Academy [SORA], Sreebadam, West Sikkim has won the first prize in the national level painting competition on Energy Conservation held at Power Management Institute, Noida on 14 December.
An NHPC press release informs that the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, presented the prize to Sonam which includes a certificate and cheque of Rs. 1 lakh in a function held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 16 December.
The Painting Competiton on Energy Conservation, an intitiative of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, is a three-tier competition which is organised at the School, State and National Level across the country.
NHPC, in association with Human Resource Development Department (HRDD), Govt. of Sikkim organised this competition for the students of Sikkim in two categories i.e Category A (for classes IV, V & VI) and Category B (for classes VII, VIII & IX).
After the selection of students at School Level, the State Level Competition was organised on 12 November, 2013 at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok. Three winners in Category A at the State Level were invited to the national capital to participate in the National Level Painting Competition which was held on 14 December, the release mentions.
The function held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi was also attended by Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge), Jyotiraditya M.Scindia, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Pradeep Kumar Sinha and other dignitaries.
