GANGTOK, 20 Dec: Nine athletes from Sikkim have returned after participating in the Delhi Marathon held on 15 December. The team was mentored by the State Athletics Coach, Basant Pradhan and had Norchung Bhutia from 4th Mile JN Road was the manager.
A press release informs that Mangali Tamang and Somu Balmiki entered in ‘Top Indian Elite Team’ and Suren Chettri entered in ‘A’ Category run. Likewise, Basant Pradhan stood 1st in 21km Marathon in 35 to 40 years category while Mangali Tamang came 6th in Open Category.
The release informs that the event drew participation of recognized long distance runners from across the world. As for the event itself, it drew the participation of 35,000 people.
The Sikkim Athletes expressed their gratitude towards the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs for sponsoring the Team and also thanked Sikkim Amateur Athletic Association for its support.
