JORETHANG, 13 Dec: The first meeting for Maghey Sankranti Mela 2014 was held today here at Jorethang Playground. Zoom Salghari MLA, Madan Cintury, presided over the meeting.
The meeting dissolved the old mela committee to form the new one for 2014 Maghey Mela at Jorethang. Area MLA Madan Cintury was unanimously elected the chief patron while DC South, Pravakar Verma will be the president and Chewang Lhamu Bhutia was elected as advisor of the new committee.
This year as well, the venue for the Maghey Mela will be the Jorethang riverside (Majhigaon).
The meeting also decided to launch a new website for Maghey Mela 2014 for wider publicity.
Apart from the mela festivities, cultural events, sports and many other activities will add to the charm of Maghey Sankranti. The committee has also fixed the rate of Departmental Stalls at Rs. 5,000 each.
While addressing the meeting, Mr. Cintury stated that the upcoming Maghey Mela will be celebrated with a unique flavour and in a festive manner. He also thanked all concerned for their support in making the Chief Minister’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2013 a grand success.
He further stated that the Maghey Mela is not an event for Jorethang alone but for entire Sikkim. He also informed that the sub committees shall be formed soon to oversee the minute details. The second meeting will be held on 21 December. The meeting was also attended by the members of Jorethang Nagar Panchayat and the officials from Namchi and Jorethang.
