The mercury is plunging with a vengeance and Gangtok
shivering hard. Official data informs that max temps were 6 to 7 degree Celsius
below normal today. The weather-underground website informs that temperatures
came down to 2 degree Celsius in Gangtok on Friday and it sure felt like
freezing weather as Gangtokians salvaged every scrap of wood to fire up some
‘bonfires’. The litter of wood scattered by the windstorm of Sunday morning
helped warm up many conversations, even as erratic power supply kept many
hearths cold. The forecast does not hold any promise for sunny days next week
either. Let’s hope the met guys are wrong like most other times…
