‘Sushelima’, a cultural and literary treat for South Sikkim

SINGTAM, 11 Nov: A cultural and literary programme, ‘Sushelima’, was held at Tambley Chaur in South Sikkim on 09 November. The programme was conducted at the open field, which was once a lake. Representatives from Singtam Basibiyalo and Kalimpong Basibiyalo were also present.
The programme witnessed a large gathering which included Girish Chandra Rai [President SIMFED] and litterateurs, Bikram Gautam, Harish Mokhtan ‘Allaray’, Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’, Suren Mohra, Mohan Sharma [former CMO Melli Block], students of different schools and local residents.
Devraj Sharma gave the welcome speech followed by a song from Bishnu Sharma, sarangi player from Sumbuk. His song told the story of how Tambley Chaur got its name.
Thereafter the students of schools of Sumbuk, Kartikay and Lungchok recited poems and stories. The students included Nitika Lakandri, Aadarsh Kafley, Radhika Rai, Priyanka Rai, Divya Rana, Manita Sharma, Mamta Rai, Basanti Rai, Sushmita Rai and Pempa Lhamu Sherpa.
This was followed by Kalimpong Basibiyalo and Singtam Basibiyalo taking to the stage with poem recitations and songs. [from SHITAL PRADHAN]
