GANGTOK, 15 Nov: Manang Marshyangdi Club [MMC] has entered the semifinal round of the ongoing 34th All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2013 here at Paljor Stadium. In another interesting quarter-final match played today, MMC edged past a tough Royal Wahingdoh FC, Shillong 02-01 in extra time.
There was strong support from locals for MMC in the match today even though it was Royal Wahingdoh which had fielded local lads Karma Lepcha as the goalkeeper and Pema Bhutia in the midfield.
Despite constant attacks and counter-attacks the first half ended goalless.
In the second half, Lalchhwaen Kima of Royal Wahingdoh effected an own-goal [last touch by Deepak Bhusal of MMC] to hand over a lead to MMC. Soon, Royal Wahingdoh’s captain Seityasen Singh scored the equalizer in the 63rd minute. At full time, the score-line was tied at 1-1 and the match was extended for 30 minutes extra-time.
In extra-time, Sujal Shrestha scored the winning goal for MMC in the 107th minute to send his team to the semi-final round of the tournament.
In today’s match, goalkeepers of both teams made some good saves keeping the score-line low.
On Saturday, the third quarter-final match will be played between home team United Sikkim Football Club and Three Star Nepal.
