GANGTOK, 14 Nov: In a special ceremony held at Raj Bhawan here today on the occasion of Children’s Day, Governor Shriniwas Patil and Mrs. Rajanidevi Patil felicitated around 40 students from all over the country and eight teachers participating in the ongoing 40th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition at Saramsa here.
A Raj Bhawan press release informs that the group was led by the HRD Minister NK Pradhan accompanied by Principal Secretary Thomas Chandy and Professor AK Wazalwar of NCERT.
Sharing their beautiful personal experience in Sikkim, the group comprising of students and teachers lauded the hospitality and respect they received along with the beauty and serenity of Sikkim, the release mentions.
The Governor in his address appraised the gathering on the significance of Children’s Day and on the contribution made by Chacha Nehru for the children of this country. The Governor also informed the gathering about the importance of National Education Day celebrated every year on the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Mr Patil also stressed on the need for greater national integration through such programmes for unity in diversity.
The entire group expressed gratitude to the Governor and the first lady for their kind gesture in felicitating them, and for having spared their precious time.
