GANGTOK, 15 Nov [IPR]: A high level meeting was held at the Chamber of Principal Secretary, Home Department attended by Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies and CA Department and senior officials with regard to the rumours going around of the purported rise in the price of salt.
During the meeting the Secretary, Food & CS & CA Department informed that 47,117 bags of approximately 50 kilograms each containing loose iodised salt is available under PDS in the transit godown at Siliguri from where the dealers are lifting their stocks and there is nothing to panic about it. However, all the District Collectors and the DCSOs have been alerted to keep a watch if any hoarding of salt is taking place. Instructions have also been issued to the concerned officials to take serious action against anyone found indulging in hoarding of salt.
The Secretary also informed that an emergency meeting was held with the Gangtok Municipal Corporation Mayor with the dealers of in and around Gangtok to ensure that there is no shortage of supply of salt in the market. The dealers in the meeting assured that adequate stock of salt is available and additional quantity is being brought to Gangtok.
