Rules notified to preserve traditional architectural compositions

GANGTOK, 10 Nov: In an initiative towards preserving Sikkim’s cultural heritage and unique architectural compositions when it comes to religious institutions here, the State government has issued a gazette notification spelling out certain conditions with regard to restoration and re-construction work of such infrastructure.
Prior clearance from the Ecclesiastical Affairs Department will now be required before any kind of re-construction, restoration or conservation of religious institutions, places of worship and monuments in the state.
As per the notification, construction agencies will also have to ensure that the original traditional architecture, design and aesthetic nature of the structures are strictly preserved and the sanctity of religious institutions and places of worship and monuments is not disturbed or its character changed in any manner while developing additional infrastructure in and around such places.
