GANGTOK, 08 Dec: A daylong training and demonstration on Citrus fruit fly management was conducted by Integrated Pest Management (IPM) team of the State Bio-Control Lab, Tadong on 06 December at Sripatam GPU, South Sikkim.
The training programme was presided over by Sonika Lepcha, Panchyat President of the GPU.
The resource persons for this training were KK Pradhan, Jt. Dir. IPM, SD Sharma, Dy. Dir. IPM, RK Sharma, HDO, IPM, and Shanti Rai, VLW, IPM.
Around 50 orange growers of Sripatam and nearby villages along with the Field Functionaries of the Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, Panchayat of Gagyong, Sripatam, and Namphok attended the training programme, the release states.
SD Sharma, Dy. Dir. IPM, in his welcome address spoke on clean and healthy management in Orange Cultivation under IPM strategy. He stressed the farmers to cultivate Organic Orange through community approach.
Likewise Ms. Sharma, HDO, IPM, highlighted Integrated Pest Management concepts for Pest and Disease Management in Citrus Plantations. Along with the Mechanical Approaches, she also demonstrated the knowhow of various bio-pesticides and botanical pesticides against various diseases and Pests of citrus plantation.
