GANGTOK, 11 Dec: The Department of Food Security and Agriculture Development has invited some companies to give trials of the modern power tiller machines manufactured by them. In this connection, Farm and Garden Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (FARMTEK) gave a demonstration of the tiller machine and other agricultural machines manufactured by it at Salangthang, Ranka, here on 09 December.
An official press release informs that this was part of the Department’s efforts at introducing farmers in the State to efficient and user-friendly tiller machines and other useful agricultural machines.
The Salangthang demonstration was held in the presence of Chairman, Farmers’ Welfare Board, DN Sapkota, SE [FA&ADD] JK Chettri, Executive Engineers P. Dorjee and Songmit Lepcha, Inspector and Field Functionaries along with the Panchayat and the farmers of Salangthang, Ranka, East Sikkim. The demonstration was held in the field of Bhim Bahadur Thapa of Salangthang, Ranka,
While conducting the programme, executive engineer P. Dorjee explained that the department wants to provide a farmer-friendly tiller machine and other useful agricultural equipment for Self Help Groups, (SHG) or Progressive Farmer Groups. In this regard, he invited the farmer to test the machines offered for demonstration and then recommend which machines the department should purchase and distribute to farmer groups.
He also informed that the larger agricultural machines like Tiller Machines will be distributed to a Self Help Group or to Progressive Farmer Groups and the smaller machines like Chap Cutters and Tools will be distributed to interested and progressive individuals.
Mr. Sapkota, Chairman, Farmers’ Welfare Board, in his address, highlighted the different schemes of the state government.
