Power Minister highlights development in Dzongu

DZONGU, 12 Dec: “Considered as one of the most remote and backward regions earlier, Dzongu has been rapidly developing ever since the SDF government came to power,” said Power Minister, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha while addressing a function here at Tingkyong in Lower Dzongu on 11 December. Mr. Lepcha further appealed to all the people to be united for the development of Dzongu.
Stating that Tingkyong is a holy place he appealed to all the people to preserve the place and its history. He added that the Chief Minister has ensured the protection of all religions in Sikkim. The Minister further lauded the people of Hee-Gyathang for declaring the GPU as an alcohol-free GPU. The state government has provided all schemes and benefits to people of all the 11 GPUs of Dzongu, he added.
The panchayat president of Hee-Gyathang GPU, Samroo Ugen Lepcha highlighted the demands related to the extension of Tingkyong public ground and construction of pavilion. Also on the day, the final match of the Tingkyong volleyball tournament was played between Hee-Gyathang Sr. Secondary School and Sangdong Gaon. Hee-Gyathang SSS won the match 3-0 lifting the trophy and cash prize.
In the evening, the grand finale of Tingkyong Idol was held where Tshering Gyampo Lepcha of CYC group Hee-Gyathang won the title. The evening’s function had Senior Scientist, Dr Sonam Rinchen Lepcha as a special guest.
Children from different schools also presented a colorful cultural programme. The function was welcomed by former zilla member, Norden Tshering Lepcha and ended with vote of thanks by committee member, Jorbu Lepcha.
Also present in the function were SDM Dzongu, Jigmee Bhutia, Principal Hee-Gyathang SSS, Dr. Subash Dhakal, panchayat and zilla members and people from all walks of life.
