GANGTOK, 10 Dec: Yangang Senior Secondary School celebrated its Annual Day today at the newly constructed school auditorium hall. South Zilla Adhyaksha CL Gurung was present as the chief guest accompanied by Chairman of Industries Board, ST Gyaltsen, Panchayat members, officials from HRDD Department, SDM Yangang as special guests.
A press release informs that the day’s programme included cultural programmes, prize distribution, declaration of best student of the year, etc.
Susil Gurung from class X and Kisan Gurung from class XII were declared the best students of the year 2013. Similarly Bikash Subba of class IX who recently won a silver medal in an international Kick Boxing event held in Nepal was congratulated for his achievements, the release mentions.
Dechen Bhutia, a teacher at the School, highlighted the achievements and progress of the school in 2013 like Rural Sports meet held in August, students’ participation in events at the national and state level throughout the year.
Principal AD Chettri placed the demands for construction of dining hall and staff quarters in school premises before the department officials. Farewell was also given to outgoing students by presenting them with Khadas and souvenirs.
The chief guest briefed the students about various opportunities and schemes for students provided by the state government. Sikkim is the first state to distribute laptops to students even though the Uttar Pradesh government had declared a similar programme, it is yet to implement it, he said.
Various prizes were presented to outstanding students in different events organised throughout the year.The programme ended with a picnic organised by the school management for the students, the release adds.
