Siniolchu FC lifts 1st Dong FA Cup

NAMCHI, 11 Dec: Siniolchu Football Club of Namchi lifted the 1st Dong Football Association Cup today, beating Sports Authority of India, Namchi, in a tiebreaker. The keenly contested final match was playe at the Dong ground and eventually ended 07-06 in Siniolchu FC’s favour.
Earlier, regulation time had ended in a 1-1 draw with Sanjit Subba (jersey No. 07) of Sinolchu FC opening the scoring in the 18th minute and Suraj Rawat (11) of SAI-Namchi scoring the equaliser in the 55th minute.
Organised by Dong Football Association in collaboration with the School Management Committee of the Dong School, the final day had political advisor to the Chief Minister KN Rai in attendance accompanied by Labour Welfare Board chairperson Passang R Sherpa, Joint Director [Sports & Youth Affairs, S/W] Kamal Chettri, JD [HRD South] MK Rai, SDM Jorethang Tenzing Bhutia, BDO Jorethang GVA, Deepak Rai, and other officials from Jorethang and Namchi.
The winning team was awarded with the trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 while SAI Namchi received Rs. 30,000 in cash prize and the runners up trophy.
Laxuman Subba of Sinolchu FC was adjudged the man of the match while Suraj Rawat of SAI was chosen the man of the tournament. Kalimpong FC was given the award of fair play.
A musical concert was also organized in the evening.
A number of personalities were also felicitated by the association in recognition of their achievements in their respective fields of work and a colourful cultural presentation marked the closing of the tournament.
