GANGTOK, 08 Dec: Sikkim Vikalang Sahayata Samity, in collaboration with Health Department and Smile Train of India, is organizing a ‘Free Corrective Surgery Camp’ here at STNM Hospital from 06-11 December.
Around 45 patients from all the four districts of the state and Kalimpong [West Bengal] have registered for corrective surgery of Cleft Lip, Palate and Burn cases. Among these, there are a total of 11 burn cases. The patients will be screened on 11 and 12 December at the Sikkim Vikalang Sahayata Samity office, Zero Point.
The medical team consists of two doctors from Agra, Dr. Satya Saraswat and Dr. Tanvir Tyagi, accompanied by three technicians.
While addressing the media on 07 here at the STNM Hospital premises, President, Sikkim Vikalang Sahayata Samity,
President of the Samity, Draupadi Ghimirey informed that the Samity has been organizing such camps since 2008 and have facilitated a total of 400 surgeries till now.
Dr. Satya Saraswat, who has been performing such surgeries in Sikkim since 2008, spoke of his experience so far. Compared to earlier, there have been improvements in medical facilities available in the state, he said but added that Sikkim now needs super specialists.
On 07 December, Casino Mahjong distributed 45 blankets and also handed over a cheque of Rs. 50,000 to Sikkim Vikalang Sahayata Samity.
