GANGTOK, 25 Jan: Sandhya Gurung, former international boxer and currently a coach under Sports & Youth Affairs Department, has returned from Siberia after attending the 3rd Women’s International Championship held at Verbes from 09 to 12 January.
She was one of the coaches of the Indian contingent which participated in three categories i.e., youth, sub-junior and senior women, informs a press release from Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association.
In the championship, India bagged 2 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze in youth category, 3 gold and 2 bronze in the sub-junior category and 1 silver and 4 bronze medals in the senior women’s category. India was the runners-up at the championship which was lifted by Russia.
The release informs that Ms Gurung has been regularly representing the country in various international events earlier as a boxer and now as coach. It is informed that her husband Manoj Limboo was also a prominent boxer from the Services and presently both husband and wife are working tirelessly for the promotion of boxing in Sikkim under the guidance of the Chief Boxing Coach, former Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Jas Lall Pradhan.
