MANGAN, 27 Jan: Rongong Youth Club of North Sikkim was presented the Youth Club Award by Nehru Yuva Kendra [NYK] Mangan on the occasion of the 65th Republic Day celebration on Sunday. The celebration was organized by North District Administration and had Member of Rajya Sabha, Hissey Lachungpa as the chief guest along with Up Adhakshya, North, NT Lepcha as a special guest.
Also present in the function were DC North, CP Dhakal, SP North, RN Yadav, ADC/N, Raj Yadav, ADC (Dev), TT Kaleon, SDM Mangan, PW Lepcha, President MNP & Members and departmental officials.
The DC North, CP Dhakal read out the Governor’s message while ADC North, Raj Yadav read out the Chief Minister’s message on the occasion. A short function was held at the community hall Mangan after the presentation of the guard of honour to the chief guest by North District Police.
The chief guest while addressing the function urged all the officers of North district to be responsible and extra careful since the Lokpal Bill has been passed by the centre. All public work should be executed without any delay, he stressed.
Responding to the demand for girls’ hostel for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya [JNV] along with drinking water supply, the MP said that he will look into the matter. While appreciating NYK North for its commendable work in the social sector, the MP said that more youth should engage in sports to refrain from drug abuse and other negative activities. The MP further directed the DC North to coordinate with GREF to improve and maintain roads in the district. He urged the engineers of the departments not to compromise on the quality work.
Earlier, the function was welcomed by Joint Director, HRDD North, Sonam Lepcha and ended with vote of thanks delivered by SDM Mangan, PW Lepcha.
