GANGTOK, 25 Jan: Owner of Orange Village Resort, Chin Kazi Shrestha along with one of the hotel’s employees, Siddhartha Moktan of Darjeeling, was released on bail today. The two were released on a bail bond and surety bond of Rs 60,000 each.
Police had arrested Mr. Shrestha on the evening of 23 January on charges of hiring Nepal nationals without the required permits. During a police raid at the resort in search of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha [SKM] office-bearers accused of rioting, one of whom is the son of Mr. Shrestha, police had found two Nepal nationals working at the resort without required permits.
After hearing the parties today, the Judicial Magistrate who was in charge on vacation bench released Mr. Shrestha and Mr. Moktan on bail. The two other accused persons, believed to be Nepal nationals, were however denied bail.
The court granted bail to Mr. Shrestha on the grounds of his ill-health. He was recuperating at the STNM hospital after an eye surgery when he was arrested, it is learnt. He is also a diabetes patient with other health problems.
The court has directed the accused persons to cooperate in the investigation till the charge-sheet is filed by the investigation agency and not to interfere or influence the prosecution witnesses.
