DENTAM, 28 Jan: The 65th Republic Day was celebrated at Dentam in West Sikkim at the Gram Vikash Kendra on 26 January under the aegis of the Office of the SDM Dentam. The programme was attended by area MLA, Chandra Maya Subba as the chief guest who unfurled the national flag. The other dignitaries and participants included former MLA, Deepak Gurung, Gram Vikash Adhikari Dentam, Himmat Rai, Retd.Captain, BB Bista, Heads of Schools, School children, SHO and police personnel from Dentam and Uttarey outposts, Panchayats, Zilla Panchayats, Officials from various departments in Dentam and the local gentries and senior citizens.
The programme started with the unfurling of the national flag at GVK premises which was followed by the formal programme at the conference hall of Gram Vikash Kendra, Dentam. The messages of the Chief Minister and the Governor on the occasion of Republic Day were presented in the house by Gram Vikash Adhikari Dentam, Himmat Rai and by HM, Khandu Secondary School, JP Chettri.
Patriotic songs were presented by the students of Roshan Memorial Academy and Mount Kanchan. In her Republic Day address, the chief guest Ms Subba stressed on the pro-poor programmes and development unleashed by the present government in the State. She also maintained that the people of Sikkim have been able to maintain complete peace while sustaining massive development in all sectors over the past twenty years despite being a border State. She called upon all citizens to stay united and rededicate themselves to contribute fully towards making Sikkim better.
