Land Revenue and Tourism Secretaries visit airport site, check on progress and inspect impact

Gangtok, 05 Dec [IPR]: Secretary Land Revenue Department, KS Tobgay, who is also the Relief Commissioner, along with Secretary, Tourism & Civil Aviation, C Zangpo, and the District Collector [East] J Raje visited the Pakyong Greenfield Airport site today to take stock of the progress and to assess the damage to land and buildings around the project site. The Airports Authority of India was represented by SP Yadav, General Manager.
During the visit, the Tourism Secretary iterated the need to complete the project by December 2014 as scheduled. Secretary Land Revenue interacted with the people whose houses were damaged and gave assurance to provide adequate compensation.
Pakyong SDM, U Poudyal, was directed to prepare a consolidated proposal on compensation and other damages.
The Tourism Secretary informed the AAI that all pending issues would be brought to the notice of the State and Union governments and necessary action taken for the smooth implementation of this prestigious project which was a gift from the Prime Minister to the State.
The visiting team also included Special Secretary LRDM S Chankapa and engineers of the Buildings Department.
