GANGTOK, 28 Sept: The Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee president, Nar Bahadur Bhandari, led a party delegation on a tour of earthquake affected on the Gangtok-Bhusk axis under Syari constituency today. An SPCC release detailing the party’s interactions with the affected people, claims that it received complaints of the concerned panchayats leaving Congress supporters out of the relief initiatives.
The SPCC press release issued by its general secretary DB Basnet alleges that the distribution of relief materials has been so unfair in the area that even the distribution of polythene sheets and pipes has been “done on partial basis”.
The party has demanded that the State Government take “stringent action against the erring Panchayats” and other concerned for politicizing the relief work, highlighting that that Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre has “advanced huge relief fund for meeting the exigencies without any discrimination”.
The SPCC team called on families in the area which lost members in the 32 Mile car accident caused by the earthquake and also visited affected families and inspected the damaged houses. The party has taken down a detailed record of the earthquake damage in the area and recorded video footage of the affected houses as well, the release informs.
Mr. Bhandari, the release informs, had to attend to some immediate work in the party office and assigned SPCC vice-president Kunga NIma Lepcha to complete the house to house visit.
