RANGPO, 26 Sept: Following rumours of a dam-burst at the Teesta Stage-V site at Dikchu which created much panic among people downstream, members of the Lions Club of Rangpo Gateway of Sikkim visited the Dikchu dam returned with video footage and photographs to prove that the dam was fine.
Yesterday, the club members organised a big-screen display of these photographs and videos for the people of Rangpo to reassure them that all was fine with the dam. An interaction between the concerned authorities and club members was also screened in town. More than two hundred residents attended the screening and were satisfied and convinced of the safety of the dam. The Lions Club president here, Chabilal Sharma, also stressed that all such rumours were false and mischievous. [from SANJAY AGARWAL]
