WEST COMPILES EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE DETAILSGANGTOK, 26 Sept: A staggering 2,542 houses in West district have been fully damaged and 6,765 houses suffered severe damage, the West District administration has submitted to the Relief Commissioner. On last count, the earthquake had displaced 181 families in the district. These families have been sheltered at 20 relief camps spread across four blocks [Daramdin, Soreng, Hee-Martam and Dentam] in West Sikkim, it is informed.
The status report prepared by the West district administration on the damage caused by the 18 September earthquake details that of the 2,551 houses “fully damaged”, 857 are kutcha houses and 1,685 pucca houses.
Kutcha houses make up 2,187 of the 6,765 houses severely damaged while pucca 4,578 houses have reported severe damage as well. The sweep of houses with partial damage adds up to 11,793 [3,914 kutcha houses and 7,879 pucca houses].
Of the relief camps in the district, the one at Daramdin shelters the maximum number of families with 40 families under its care. Timberbong under Soreng Block accommodates another 35 families.
Of the different blocks of the district, Yuksam has posted the highest number of houses damaged. 180 kutcha houses and 354 pucca houses have suffered complete damage in Yuksam. The figures for Dentam are only marginally lower with 154 kutcha houses and 303 pucca houses suffering complete damage.
At Gyalshing, 129 kutcha houses and 253 pucca constructions have been fully damaged while in Soreng, 111 kutcha houses and 219 pucca houses have suffered complete damage.
