GANGTOK, 28 Sept: A team headed by the Lachen-Mangan MLA, Tshering Wangdi Lepcha, toured the earthquake affected areas of Lachung, Lachen and Chungthang, on 25 September offering condolences and reaching relief to the people there.
The MLA was accompanied by Advisor to the Chief Minister, Hissey Lachungpa, SDM, DC and SDPO. The team alighted at Lachung first, and met with the Lachung Pipon and took account of the earthquake damage in the area.
The MLA handed over Rs. 10 lakh [released by the State Government to facilitate immediate relief and rehabilitation efforts] to the Pipon and also made arrangements for the supply of additional food-items there, informs a press release issued by the SDF secretary, Prem Karki, today.
On 27 Sept, the team reached Lachen and inspected the relief and rehabilitation works there. Here as well, the MLA handed over Rs.10 lakh from the State Government to the Lachen Pipon and assured all possible assistance to the area to recover from the calamity.
The SDF release reiterates that the State government is taking all the possible measures to reach the affected people, reassure them and ensure that despite the difficult times, they are not left wanting for anything. The release points out that the fact that despite the devastation, the people have been kept safe from outbreak of diseases and provided with shelter and adequate essential items was proof of the state machinery having responded diligently to the needs of the affected people.
