FRESH CONSIGNMENTS FLOWN TO AFFECTED AREAS OF NORTH SIKKIM
GANGTOK, 28 Sept: The Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department has, between 21 to 28 September, supplied foodgrains to the tune of 44.36 tons to different relief camps set up by the respective District administrations from different food godowns, informs a press release issued by the Department’s Secretary.
Today, the Department reached another consignment of essential items to affected areas.
The relief materials dispatched by the Department include both, essential commodities as well as ready-to-eat food, to different areas in North Sikkim through army choppers.
Sufficient stocks of rice and sugar have been maintained at the Mangan food godown which should last at least another 10 days, supplying the needs of Chungthang, Lachen, Lachung and Dzongu.
The department has further assured that sufficient stock of foodgrains [at least for another 4 months] at the FCI godowns at Rangpo and Jorethang. The state godowns are also adequately stocked, the release adds.
The reserves of petroleum products at North District Head Quarters at Mangan ar also adequate for the present, the release informs.
Further the local administration there is taking all necessary actions to ensure full availability of POL and LPG cylinders in North District.
Today, army helicopters flew several sorties to reach 670 kgs of rice, 100 kgs of dal, 25 kgs of salt, 39 kgs of mustard oil and 100 kgs potatoes to Lachung and 550 kgs of rice to Chungthang.
It was also informed that there is a stock of 1500 liters of SK Oil at Chungthang as of today.
