NAMCHI, 13 Aug: A day-long training cum workshop on 5th Census of Minor Irrigation Schemes for South District was conducted today here at District Administrative Center Conference Hall, Namchi South Sikkim. The training programme was organized by Irrigation & Flood Control Department which was sponsored by Ministry of Water Resource, government of India, New Delhi.
Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Department, DK Rai was present as the chief guest of the training programme which was also attended by ACE Suren Karkidholi, SE PK Pradhan, Joint Director Monitoring and evaluation SK Lameychaney and Deputy Director LR&DM DK Rai.
During the programme ACE, Suren Karkidholi informed that this census of Minor Irrigation Schemes is being conducted in state to create reliable data for the future planning for the development of the water resource of the state. He further informed that this census is done every five years which will illustrate the covered water resource, potential creation and various water development works and benefits of schemes in the covered area of the state.
Joint Director Monitoring and Evaluation, SK Lameychaney who was the main resource person of the training programme informed about the various procedures of filling up the forms to collect the data for the census. He also urged all the trainees to collect the data according to the norms and conditions and to approach the departmental heads if they have any doubts.
