GANGTOK, 08 Aug: Students of Sikkim Government College, Tadong, have welcomed the decision of the state government to suspend four officials for their role in the handling of the student protest on 14 July.
In a joint statement, students Punam Karki, Rakshya Gautam, Prakash Parajuli and Tshering Denka have thanked the State Government and the one-man committee [CT Wangdi] set up to inquire into the incident. The students have stated that the committee has submitted an impartial report.
They have further said that the one-man committee's report is a good lesson for government officers and will hopefully prevent others from misusing power. They have thanked all students who supported the cause and reiterated that violence was not their intention.
