“Will write to PM to allow Karmapa to visit Sikkim” - CM

CHIEF MINISTER COMPLETES HIS 42 DAY VILLAGE TOUR AT KABI

PHODONG/KABI LUNGTSOK, 01 NOV:  The chief minister completed his 42 days village tour today with his last visit at Kabi-Tingda constituency where several demands placed by the public were approved and sanctioned by him on the spot.
The Chief Minister while addressing the public and the monks at Phodong Monastery said that tomorrow he would be writing to the Prime Minister of the country to facilitate the visit of the 17th Karmapa Ogyen Thinley Dorje to Sikkim during the occasion of Lhabab Dhuechen which falls of 17th November 2011. Further he added that the Member of Parliaments of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will be activated to pursue the matter with the Central Government. The Chief Minister also announced Rs.20 lakhs to Sotak Monastery and Rs.15 lakhs to Lingchom Monastery. Further he directed the concerned department to complete the Bagcha to Kabi road on priority.
During his visits today the Chief Minister made an appeal to all the people to maintain the quality of works both in the construction of government and private property as this was one of the lessons learnt from the earthquake. He also informed that the government will pass the necessary by-laws regulating height of buildings in Sikkim which would be technically strong enough to bear an earthquake of 9 Richter. The CM also emphasized that there would be a White Paper on the funds received from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation. The chief minister also directed the ecclesiastical department to carry out the work in earnest the earthquake had damaged many monasteries in North Sikkim. 
Touring to the constituency, the first visit today by the chief minister was at Lingchom village where he held a meeting with the public at the Lingchom monastery for the public of Kabi-Tingda ward.
The chief minister sanctioned the additional construction of Lingchom monastery for which he announced Rs. 15 Lakhs.
Responding to various other demands placed by the people he assured that every demand would be fulfilled phase-wise. This included demands for construction of protective walls, jhora training, welcome gates etc. furthermore it was assured by the CM that the demands concerning restoration and reconstruction in the post earthquake scenario would be sanctioned 100%.
The chief minister also encouraged the villagers here at Lingchom to take the initiative in dairy farming, poultry and piggery and also encouraged the development of fish farming in the region as there is ample water sources.  He also encouraged the people towards adopting homestay tourism informing them that the government would support them with the addtitional construction of two room structures.
The chief minister also handed over 1 lakhs each to Sherpa Samaj and SHG Group of the area in order to enable them to purchase required items and equipment.  
The second session of the interaction with the people was held Labi Village where the CM announced the construction of a Monastic school for which an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs was sanctioned.  He also announced the upgradation including widening and carpeting of Bakcha to Labi road for which he directed the concerned PWD Department for preparing the proposal of funding.
While highlighting on the demands placed by the people for the construction of Pukka house, the chief minister said that the government itself had already made a target to make Sikkim Kutcha house free by 2013.
The chief minister also held a meeting with the people at at Seven  Sisters Falls for the people of Phensong and Menrongong GPUs.   Here also he sanctioned various demands placed by the people.
Thereafter the chief minister visited the Phodong Sr. Secondary school complex where he was given a grand welcome by the students and the teachers.  Here he directed the concerned department for the dismantling of the Primary Section building and in which place a new building would be constructed.  He also visited the Labrang monastery (Old monastery)at Phodong which has suffered damages.
The final meeting was held at Phodong monastery.  The chief minister while highlighting the demand of the monk body and the Karmapa Reception Committee (KRC) informed that he wanted to bring the Karmapa to Sikkim He also said that people should not doubt his sincerity as regards this issue.  He also said that the old structure of the Phodong monastery should be preserved while the monastery was being renovated.
The chief minister also made a stop at Phengla where he interacted with the people and received their demands.  Earlier the CM also lit butter lamps at the Statue of Unity at Kabi Lungstock.
Finally the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to all the cabinet ministers, MLAs, all the departments, District collectors for their contribution in making this tour fruitful and urged every department that this tour should be result oriented.
