GANGTOK, 31 Oct: The 60th birthday of the 14th Gyalwang Shamarpa Mipham Chokyi Lodrue was observed on 27 Oct in a solemn manner across Sikkim while the main function was held here at Zimchung in Rumtek, informs a press release.
The function started with offering of Tashi Gyepa prayers followed by Mendel Tensum offering at the Golden Throne of Gyalwang Shamarpa Mipham Chokyi Lodrue. The monks and lay people then offered Tashi Jeldar at his Golden Throne along-with aspiration prayers for his long life and longevity.
In view of the recent earthquake, the scale and grandeur of the birthday celebration in Sikkim was restricted to only a formal and solemn one, the release informs. As wished by the Gyalwang Shamarpa, special Phurab Geypa prayer was offered in memory of all earthquake victims as well as for the state’s prosperity. The function culminated with extensive chanting of Mani-prayers for earthquake victims of Sikkim.
The release further informs that prayers were also conducted at Sri Diwakar Vihara in Kalimpong by hundreds of monks, wishing the best to the 14th Gyalwang Shamarpa. Aspiration prayers for the well being and longevity of the 14th Gyalwang Shamarpa along-with special prayers for the Turkey earthquake victims were also conducted at Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in New Delhi apart from similar other prayers/observations across Nepal and Bhutan.
