PURAN TAMANGNAMCHI, 31 Oct: SDPO Namchi, Gegee Norbu, spoke to media persons today regarding the case of police brutality in Namchi involving Namchi Police Station 2nd OC, Tashi Chopel and one Ramesh Mangar on the night of 26 October.
The SDPO informed that she was also present on the spot when the incident occurred but after Mr Mangar’s apology she had left the spot to continue with her patrolling. She however was apprised of Mr Mangar being taken into custody that night but was unaware of the alleged assault while in lock-up.
She further said that Mr Mangar’s brother had come to her office and apologised for his brother’s behaviour but there was no mention of the assault or a complaint at the time. She came to know of the alleged assault from local newspaper reports today, she said further adding that the matter will be looked into and a thorough enquiry made on the allegation.
