GANGTOK, 12 Jan: Sikkim’s karatekas have bagged 13 medals at the recently held 4th Open International karate championship in Kolkata. Nine karatekas from Sikkim had participated in this tournament and have returned with a rich haul of 6 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals, informs a press release. The team was led by coach Shihan Kulahari Rai.
Binam Gurung won 4 gold medals while Kojal Thapa and Bishnu Rai bagged a gold medal each in different categories. Tenzing Chopel Bhutia, Tarun Chettri and Bishnu Maya Subba bagged silver medals. Anil Chettri, Babina Subba and Pravesh Pradhan won bronze medals.
The release mentions that all the players have thanked their coach Shihan Kulahari Rai for the opportunity to participate in this tournament. They have also thanked their trainer Binam Gurung, it is added.
