GANGTOK, 15 Jan: A three-month long capacity building training programme on Rari/ Lukuni/ Handloom weaving sponsored by Department of Border Management under Border Area Development Programme was inaugurated at Dalapchen by MK Rai, Panchayat Secretary, Dalapchen GPU here on 13 Jan. The training programme is being implemented by the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom.
The inaugural programme was also attended by other Panchayat members of the of Dalapchen GPU, local gentry and public of the area, an official press release informs.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest urged the trainees to strive and become self-reliant through their new skills and also thanked the Department and government for organizing such training in their area for the upliftment of the womenfolk of the area.
Jigme Pintso Bhutia, Assistant Director, DHH, informed the weavers and gathering about the programme and the different schemes and programmes being formulated by the central government for the benefit of weavers.
