GANGTOK, 08 Jan: Thirty children from Pangthang and surrounding areas are participating in the State Bank of India - United Sikkim Football Club [USFC] Winter Football Camp underway at the Sikkim Armed Police ground at Pangthang in East Sikkim. The camp had started on 06 January.
The three-week camp is being provided free of cost to aspiring U-15 footballers by the USFC and has coaches and senior players of Sikkim Police as trainers. The organizers have also provided kits to the participants.
On the first day of the camp, USFC CEO Bhaichung Bhutia interacted and motivated young footballers to make the most of the camp for a bright future in the game.
Speaking to media persons, Bhaichung said that this was the first in the series of camps that USFC had earlier promised to organize in different parts of the state especially in the rural areas. He informed that similar cam
ps would also begin at Mangan and Dzongu in North Sikkim, Pelling in West Sikkim and at Kewzing and Tinkitam in South Sikkim. Such camps will also be held at Mela Ground in Kalimpong and Dali and Labong in Darjeeling, he added.
The main objective of the camp is to put the long winter vacation to better use where kids can get basic training in football and learn the various skills of the game.
