GANGTOK, 08 Jan: Boys’ Club Under-15 team is all set to play in the Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC) Football Tournament for East, North and North-East zones scheduled to be held at Nehru Stadium, New Delhi from 15 to 18 January. Boys’ Club is the champion of the Sikkim-leg of the tournament held last month at Paljor Stadium.
The 16-member team will be accompanied by manager, Ujjal Subba, coach, Sunny Rai and assistant manager, Dev Gurung. The team led by Siddhant Rai as the captain will be leaving on 10 January for the tournament.
Speaking to media persons today, team manager, Mr Subba mentioned that the team is a young and fresh one and will be playing outside the state for the first time. The team had emerged as the champion of the Sikkim-leg from amongst the 8 teams that had participated.
The team went through a 20-day rigorous training session at Paljor Stadium. Four members of the team were shortlisted from the ongoing Boys’ Club winter football camp.
“The team is in good form and the club has high expectations. If we win this tournament then we will be playing against the winner of the South and West zone in Mumbai”, said Mr. Subba. The winner of the India-leg will then get to play in the South East Asia Tournament.
Boys’ Club has also expressed its gratitude to the Sikkim Football Association and especially its general secretary, Menla Ethenpa for his constant support to the club.
