GANGTOK, 15 Jan: The 66th Army Day was celebrated by Black Cat Division here on 14 and 15 January with Maj Gen YVK Mohan, GOC Black Cat Division, laying a wreath on the memorial at the Hasimara Military Station in memory of the martyrs of Indian Army, a press release informs.
Army Day is celebrated to commemorate the ‘Taking over the Reins’ of the Indian Army by an Indian General in Independent India. It was on this momentous day in 1948 that General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa became the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army when he took over from General Roy Butcher.
