NAMCHI, 03 Aug: Awareness programmes on organic farming with focus on training on cultivation of Rajma were held in different villages of South District from 23-30 July.
A press release informs that the training on organic cultivation was first held at Maniram Village Tourism complex which was conducted by Nirmala Moktan [ADO Namchi] in the presence of Zilla Panchayat member, Himal Tamang and other panchayat members. The training, supported by ATMA, was well attended by about 125 farmers of Phalidara- Maniram GPU.
The VLW Pinky Bhutia distributed 400 kgs of Rajma seeds to the farmers which will cover an area of 8 hectares approximately. The Field Officer of Sikkim Organic Mission, Kulman Chettri who was also present in the programme addressed the farmers on the topic of organic mission. The panchayats and farmers also interacted with departmental officials.
Similar training was organized at Livelihood School Denchung on 26 July which was attended by 60 farmers of Denchung. The training was conducted by ADO Namchi while Agriculture Inspector, ST Lepcha and VLW, Vidya Bhusan distributed 400 kgs of Rajma seeds to the farmers which will cover an area of 8 hectares.
Training was also held at Damthang VLW Centre on 28 July which was conducted by ADO Namchi wherein 50 farmers took part. Agriculture Inspector, Kalpana Pradhan distributed 100 kgs of Rajma seeds to the farmers of Upper Jaubari covering an area of 2 hectares. The panchayat member of Upper Jaubari also attended the programme along with Field Officers of Sikkim Organic Mission (SOM).
On 30 July, similar awareness cum training programme was held at Kholaghari at the residence of panchayat member Chandra Rai wherein 50 farmers attended the programme. The training was conducted by ADO Namchi, while VLW Prakash Tiwari distributed 200 kgs of Rajma seeds to the farmers covering an area of 2 hectares.
