GANGTOK, 03 Aug: With the view to initiate children into the game of chess, Saraswati Vidya Niketan, Tadong has started a course in chess which was inaugurated by Ward Councilor, Bhaskar Basnet on Saturday.
At the moment, 44 students from nursery to fifth standard have enrolled in the chess course. The students will be acquiring technical skills of chess under the instructor, Durga Prasad while Amit Agarwal, has extended support to the school by providing the required kits.
Addressing the inaugural function, Councilor Mr Basnet, lauded the initiative of Vidya Niketan and also congratulated the school family for introducing chess in the school. He also urged parents to encourage their children to take up chess as a sport for mental development of their children.
The Councilor also thanked the sponsor Amit Agarwal for the support.
The inaugural function was also attended by former secretary, KN Sharma and general secretary of Sikkim Chess Association, Mahendra Dhakal. The function also witnessed cultural programs, including patriotic songs presented by the students.
