NAMCHI, 06 Aug: The World Breast Feeding Week was observed by Nutrition Cell, Social Justice Empowerment and Welfare Department Namchi in collaboration with Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit (CFNEU) Gangtok.
The programme, which started on 04 August, was observed at Anganwadi Centre in Purano Namchi and was attended by Deputy Director Nutrition Cell, SJE&WD South District, Bharati Basnett along with Demonstration Officer B. Barjolee CFNEU Gangtok, ICDS Supervisor Namchi, Biswa Chandra Rai, Nutrition Inspector South, Sophia Lepcha and members of ASHA, AWW, AWH and mothers from the surrounding areas.
This year the theme for World Breast Feeding Week is ‘Breast Feeding: A winning goal for life’. The Councilor of Namchi Municipal Council, Binod Rai was the chairperson of the programme. During the programme Deputy Director of Nutrition Cell Namchi emphasized on breast feeding which is a must from birth till the age of six months.
The Demonstration Officer B. Barjolee CFNEU Gangtok cooked ‘upma’ a South Indian dish and explained the benefits of ‘upma’ as a balanced diet. Also Nutrition Inspector Sophia Lepcha demonstrated and talked about green omelet and its ingredients which is also a good balanced diet.
The programme also included events like quiz competition along with baby show for babies from 6 months to 2 years, and recipe competition on complementary feeding. The Chairperson distributed prizes to the winners and lauded the efforts of the Nutrition Cell, SJE&WD.
