GANGTOK, 04 Aug: The annual general body meeting cum election of Sikkim State Karate Do Association [SSKA] was held at Paljor Stadium conference hall on Sunday. The meeting was attended by president Bal Bir Tamang, general secretary Bidhan Ballav Subba and other committee members of SSKA, a press release informs.
SSKA treasurer Bishnu Kumar Rai presented the annual financial and accounts report.
The meeting was informed that Bijoy Gurung and Bhim Bahadur Subba, both of SAP, qualified for the 5th Dan Black Belt under World Karate Federation. Similarly, Bijoy Gurung, Dichen Lepcha, Krishna Prasad Rai and Dina Rai have qualified as National referees and judges.
The meeting was further informed that Hem Kumari Rai, Sushmita Rai and Mandira Karki have qualified and selected for the National Games and Hem Kumari Rai has also completed the National Camp for the upcoming Asian Games. Similarly, Bhim Bahadur Subba and Bijoy Gurung had entered and participated in the International Karate Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The meeting has given credit to the hard works and efforts of the Chief Technical Director-cum-general secretary SSKA Bidhan Ballav Subba for the achievements of the association.
The press release informs that the annual report of the association was followed by the election of a new working committee which has Bal Bir Tamang as president, Arjun Rai, Tej Man Gurung, Geeta Thapa and Bhuwan Singh Chettri as vice-presidents, Bidhan Ballav Subba as general secretary, Zonal Gurung, Gyal Tshering lepcha, Taraman Gurung and Ganga Prasad Rai as joint secretaries, Bishnu Kumar Rai as treasurer and BM Rai and Sangay Tshering Lepcha as advisor.
The election was participated in by 50 members of the association, the release informs,
The meeting has also decided to hold the 13th State Karate Championship in the month of September at Namchi in South Sikkim. It is informed that the gold medalists in the championship will be representing the state in the upcoming North-East and National Karate Championships.
On the occasion, the SSKA has also felicitated Bidhan Ballav Subba on being elected joint secretary of Karate Association of India [KAI] and Arjun Rai on being elected as the vice-president of North East State Karate Federation of Indian.
