GANGTOK,
23 Mar: A review meeting on preparedness of East district for the
upcoming General Election 2014 was convened by the Chief Secretary, AK
Srivastava on 21 March at District Conference Hall of D.A.C Sichey. The meeting
was attended by Principal Secretary, Home, GOS, District Collector East, SP East,
ADMs, SDMs, GM BSNL and other officers from line departments.
An official release
informs that the DC East briefed the Chief Secretary about the activities
undertaken till date for the preparedness of the General Election 2014. SP East informed that all necessary arrangements have been made by
the East District Police for the smooth conduct of the elections.
The Chief Secretary
requested all the concerned officials to work diligently for the smooth conduct
of the election. He directed the Power Department to restore power supply at the
earliest in the area wherever it is disrupted and to take necessary steps to
meet the emergencies. He also directed GM, BSNL to resolve connectivity issues
and ensure undisrupted communication, especially during election.
The Chief Secretary
also directed the District Administration for proper training of Presiding and
Polling Officers to avoid any mistakes during elections and expressed his
desire to attend one of the training sessions conducted by the District
Administration. He also asked the district administration to be prepared for
any natural calamity that might occur as the monsoon season is approaching, the
release mentions.
The Chief Secretary
expressed hope that a free, fair and peaceful election will be conducted under
the leadership of the District Collector, East who is also the Returning
Officer for Sikkim Parliamentary Constituency, Sangha and 12 Assembly constituencies.
