South officials begin training on Incident Response System


NAMCHI, 22 Jan [IPR]: Three-day Capacity Development Training Program on Incident Response System (IRS) commenced today in the South District headquarter Namchi. The training is being organized by the South District Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) & State of Sikkim Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) at DAC Conference hall.
The introductory session was attended by SDZP Upadhakshya, DM Baraily as the chief guest while others present were DC South, DC West, SDMs, ADC, HODs and representatives of various government departments of South and West districts.
District Collector South, Prabhaker Verma in his welcome address informed that the NDMA has come up with a system called Incident Command System (ICS)/Incident Response System (IRS) which is known to be one of the world’s best practices. This system has proved to meet the desired objective of saving lives and properties during disasters and the NDMA Officials who have been trained in this system would guide and teach the stakeholders regarding ICS/IRS with roles and responsibilities, he added.
Specialist IRS NDMA, BB Gadnayak informed the members about IRS background and other related topics through a power point presentation and he also conducted a Group exercise based on disaster scenario during the program which was actively participated by the members.
