GANGTOK, 20 Jan: Twenty-five taxi drivers of Friend’s Group (the Lall Bazaar- Tadong Line), left on a weeklong exposure tour to Kolkata this afternoon.
The tour is being organized by their mother organization, the Sikkim Local Taxi Drivers Association (SLTDA), which last year started the practice of annual tours for its various sub-organizations and driver groups.
Stand Secretary, Ram Thapa, informs that another set of 45 taxi drivers belonging to another group is also scheduled to leave for an exposure tour under the same initiative on Tuesday.
“These exposure tours have proved very useful to the taxi operators since its inception last year. Interactions with other organizations and our counterparts in Kolkata will be the highlight of the tour. Direct interaction with tourists and other stakeholders is also part of the tour that will commence on 28 January,” the Stand Secretary, Friends Group, adds.
He also thanked Speaker, KT Gyaltsen, MLA DB Thapa and the Tadong ward councilor, Bhaskar Basnett on behalf of all members of Friends’ Group, stressing that without their help and support, the exposure tour would not have been possible.
