GANGTOK, 24 Jan: Five-week training for weavers and artisans funded by the office of the National Centre for Design and Product Development, (NCDPD), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India concluded today.
A press release informs that the training conducted by Empanelled Designer, Chemi Ongmu Bhutia was held under the guidance of the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Government of Sikkim in 5 (five) batches for 100 numbers of weavers and artisans from 09 December 2013 to 24 January 2014.
The training was held on Capacity/ Skill Development in Entrepreneurship Development Programme, Design and Product Development, Manufacture Processes and Technological Developments, Marketing, Compliance, Trade Terms and Payments, Packing Techniques and Trade Show Participation.
The programme concluded in the presence of officers of Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Government of Sikkim along with officials from Marketing, Service and Extension Centre (MSEC), Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Deorali, Gangtok, Sikkim and officials from the NEDFi, Gangtok.
Speaking to all artisans and weavers Deputy Director (Training), Chozang Tshering Lepcha urged them to take full advantage of the training provided to them and become self-reliant and generate income to earn livelihood through traditional crafts. Certificates were also distributed to all the participants, it is added.
