MANGAN, 21 Jan: The five-day Maghey Mela at Dikchu organized by Sangam Youth Club, Lower Rakdong concluded on 17 January. The function had area MLA cum Chief Whip, Ugen T Gyatso Bhutia as the chief guest accompanied by District Youth Coordinator, NYK Gangtok, Puran Chettri, Panchayat President, BB Gurung, former zilla member, Norden Tshering Lepcha and other officials.
Addressing the gathering the MLA appreciated the traditional mela and urged the youth club to continue to organize this annual Mela. Responding to the demand of play ground at Old Dikchu Bazaar placed by members of the club and the construction of a club house for three NGOs of Dikchu (Sangam Youth Club, DIkchu Youth Welfare Association and Sreejana Club), the MLA stated that the demand letter should be submitted to him before February and that he will take the necessary action.
Delivering his welcome speech, President Sangam Youth Club, Nesh Lall Gurung detailed the history of Dikchu Maghey Mela and the different social activities undertaken by the club in the area. DYC NYK, Puran Chettri urged the NGO to initiate more social activities.
The chief guest and other guests visited the traditional stalls while a colourful cultural programme was also presented by dance troupes from different areas.
