GANGTOK, 31 July: The Chief Judicial Magistrate of South district has acquitted all the 18 Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party workers charged in a political clash case with the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front party workers last year in South Sikkim.
The Judicial Magistrate, who is also the Chief Judicial Magistrate in charge, on Wednesday acquitted all the 18 accused charged under Sections 147, 148, 149, 323, 332, 341, 353, 440 and 427 of the IPC read with Section 4 of Prevention and Damages of Public Property Act.
The SKM workers headed by Bhoj Raj Rai, Basant Kumar Rai [who later joined SDF] and 16 others had been accused of vandalizing a police vehicle belonging to Melli police station and beating up one Nar Bir Tamang of SDF on 23 June 2013 in South Sikkim.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court discharged them on lack of proper evidence and failure of the prosecution to prove the case beyond any doubt.
