MANGAN, 29 July: The Tholung Kessung Eco-Tourism Development Society convened a meeting with District officials at Bey in Upper Dzongu, North Sikkim on 27 July. The meeting was also attended by DC North, TN Kazi, accompanied by SDM Dzongu, Gyas Pega.
The TKETDS president, Nima Lepcha, speaking on behalf of the people and the organization, highlighted that the Society is working for the promotion of eco-tourism in the area along with the preservation of traditional culture, religious and nature. He further requested the DC North for the improvement and up-gradation of Bey Pentong road, installation of one mobile tower at Pentong and construction of an adventure training centre at Bey.
The DC North informed that the Lingzya-Bey road has been included under Backward Area Development Programme (BADP) and also said that since Dzongu is rich in greenery there is a lot of potential for development of eco-tourism in the area. The DC further stated that the district administration is always there to extend support for the betterment and development of the area.
Also present in the meeting were Panchayat President, Sonam Ongmu Lepcha, Panchayat Secretary, Namdup Lepcha, ward panchayat Pentong, Dup Tshering Lepcha, AD Sports, Janim Lepcha, Mountaineering instructor, Nima Tamang and the local people.
