GANGTOK, 01 Aug: Speaker, Sikkim Legislative Assembly, KN Rai, called on the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Sumitra Mahajan, in Parliament today. They exchanged views on several matters especially on women’s empowerment with Ms. Mahajan being very appreciative of the work done in this sector by the Sikkim Government and especially Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, a press communiqué informs.
Mr. Rai invited the Speaker to visit Sikkim in the near future. He was accompanied by the Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, PD Rai.
Later, they visited the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training. Additional Secretary Vijaykrishnan showed the Speaker around and Mr. Rai reportedly shared the need for help from the Parliament in training of staff and officers. He also wanted books and periodicals related to Parliamentary procedures. The Additional Secretary said that he would do the needful.
Mr. Rai also expressed the need for orientation programs for Members of the Legislative Assembly of Sikkim as well. Later he visited the Parliamentary Museum. He was very impressed and expressed that he would like to make a revisit along with other members as well, the release states.
